These include Duke University and North Carolina Central University in town and North Carolina State University and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Durham is part of The Research Triangle (Raleigh, Durham, Chapel Hill) one of the most prominent high-tech research and development centers in the United States and home to over 200 companies including GlaxoSmithKline, Duke University and Merck and Co. Southern Living Magazine recently called Durham, "The hottest food destinations in the South" and with such grand a mixture of food, coffee and beer it's hard to argue. Start your morning at Cocoa Cinnamon for a coffee experience you won't forget. Breakfast might include Dame’s Chicken & Waffles, inspired by the Harlem Renaissance in the 20's. For lunch (liquid lunch), you might try Fullsteam Brewery. They use locally sourced grains and native ingredients like sweet potatoes, figs, persimmons, and chestnuts to produce brews with a distinctly Southern flavor. Your in the South, so it's barbecue for dinner. Some of the best include Picnic Durham, Hog Heaven and The Original Q Shack. This is just a sampling of what Durham has to offer.
